Standing firm in Christ during uncertain times

March 2021 will forever be remembered as a time of rapid change and uncertainty. A new administration has taken office in the United States, and political tensions are at an all-time high. The world is still in the grip of a pandemic, fear is everywhere, and the moral and cultural landscape is shifting fast.

For Christians, the question is clear: How do we stand firm in faith when everything around us seems to be unraveling?

A Nation in Transition

Just weeks into the Biden administration, the country has already seen sweeping changes. Executive orders were signed at a record pace, quickly undoing many of the previous administration’s policies. In the name of progress, tens of thousands of jobs were eliminated overnight. The very same leaders who had promised swift solutions to the pandemic are now telling us that there is little they can do.

And yet, for all the turmoil, one thing remains unchanged: God is still on His throne.

For Christians, the real concern isn’t just political or economic—it is spiritual. The tone coming from Washington is troubling. Words like “deprogramming” are being used to describe people of faith and conservative values. Legislation is making its way through Congress that threatens to erode religious freedoms. And in the cultural conversation, biblical truth is being cast aside in favor of relativism and moral compromise.

So what do we do? How do we live faithfully when the world seems to be shifting under our feet?

Walk as Children of Light

The Bible gives us clear direction for times like these. Ephesians 5:1-21 lays out the foundation for how we should live, no matter the political or social climate:

“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.” (Ephesians 5:1-2, NASB95)

This is where our focus must be. The world is filled with deception, immorality, and darkness, but we are not called to conform to it. Instead, we are to walk in the light (Ephesians 5:8).

It’s easy to get caught up in the anger and frustration of the moment. We see injustice. We watch people celebrate what God calls sin. We hear the mockery of biblical truth, and our hearts break for what is happening to our nation. But we cannot allow these things to pull us into bitterness or fear.

Instead, Paul tells us:

  • Do not participate in darkness (Ephesians 5:11) – That means we don’t compromise with the world’s values, but we also don’t fight the way the world fights.
  • Expose evil with the truth (Ephesians 5:13) – This doesn’t mean shouting angrily from the rooftops, but rather, boldly speaking God’s Word in love.
  • Make the most of your time (Ephesians 5:16) – The days are evil, but we are still called to live purposefully and wisely.

What Does This Look Like in Daily Life?

Living as a Christian in 2021—and beyond—means being intentional about how we use our time, where we place our focus, and how we engage with the world.

1. Stay Grounded in God’s Word

When the world feels chaotic, Scripture is our anchor. It reminds us of God’s promises, His sovereignty, and His unchanging truth. Set aside daily time to read and reflect on the Bible. If we don’t fill our hearts with truth, the noise of the world will fill the void.

2. Stay Connected to the Body of Christ

One of the biggest challenges of 2021 is isolation. Churches are shut down. Fellowship is limited. But we are not meant to walk alone. Hebrews 10:25 reminds us, “Do not forsake assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encourage one another, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”

If your church is open, be there. If it’s not, find creative ways to connect—small groups, online Bible studies, or even gathering with a few believers in your home. The enemy wants us isolated, discouraged, and silent. Don’t let him win.

3. Be the Encouragement You Want to See

It’s easy to look at the world and feel discouraged. But what if instead of focusing on what’s wrong, we focused on being the light? If your church feels cold or lifeless, don’t leave—bring the warmth. If the people around you are anxious, be the one who reminds them of God’s promises.

We don’t need to be loud or aggressive to make a difference. A life lived in joy, peace, and truth is one of the greatest testimonies we can offer.

4. Stay Focused on the Mission

Our calling hasn’t changed. The Great Commission still stands. Jesus never told us to be comfortable or to fit in with the culture. He told us to go, make disciples, and teach His truth (Matthew 28:19-20).

This means standing firm when it’s unpopular. It means refusing to compromise when the world tells us to. And it means keeping our eyes on Jesus—not politicians, not media, not even the state of the nation.

The Days Are Growing Dark—But We Are Not Afraid

Yes, things will get harder for Christians. That is the reality of the last days. But Jesus never promised ease—He promised victory.

“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

Now is the time to decide where you stand. Will you blend in, go silent, or live in fear? Or will you stand firm, walk in faith, and let the light of Christ shine through you?

The church needs you. The world needs to see unshakable faith. And you need to remember that no matter what happens next, your hope is secure in Christ.

I’m praying for you!

Spread the Gospel, lives depend on it!!!

Your brother in Christ,

Duane
