It feels like every day brings another sign that we are living in the last days. Wars, moral decay, and a growing hostility toward Christianity make it easy to wonder if we are witnessing the unfolding of Revelation. In the midst of this, how should we, as Christians, respond? How can we remain faithful while also leading others—including straying believers—back to Christ?
Be Patient and Strengthen Your Heart
“You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.” – James 5:8 (ESV)
It’s natural to long for Jesus’ return. With the world seemingly falling apart, we may find ourselves crying out, “Lord, how much longer?” But James reminds us to be patient. Just as a farmer waits for the rain and the harvest, we must trust God’s perfect timing.
We may see wickedness increasing, but we must remember that God’s delay is His mercy. Every moment He waits is another opportunity for someone to turn to Him. Rather than letting frustration take over, we should use this time to strengthen our faith and help others do the same.
Stop Complaining and Start Praying
“Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the door.” – James 5:9 (ESV)
It’s easy to complain about the state of the world. We see corruption in government, sin being celebrated, and the church often growing cold. But God calls us to a different response. Instead of complaining, we should be praying.
Prayer is powerful. James reminds us of Elijah, who prayed for drought and later for rain, and both times, God answered (James 5:17-18). Yet in many churches today, prayer has been pushed aside. We spend time singing worship songs, having “quiet times,” or seeking emotional experiences, but do we truly pour out our hearts to God?
David, in the Psalms, shows us what it means to pray with honesty and passion. Jesus Himself spent long hours in prayer. If the Son of God needed that deep connection with the Father, how much more do we?
If you don’t know how to pray, start simple:
- Thank God for who He is.
- Confess your struggles and sins.
- Ask for wisdom and strength.
- Intercede for others.
- Listen.
The Holy Spirit will guide you. Prayer is not about saying the right words; it’s about opening your heart to God.
Hold Fellow Believers Accountable
“My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.” – James 5:19-20 (ESV)
Often, the church is focused on evangelism, reaching the lost—which is essential. But what about those already in the faith who are slipping away? James makes it clear: we have a responsibility to our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Sin is deceptive. A believer doesn’t usually fall away all at once—it happens little by little. A compromise here, an excuse there, until one day, their faith is unrecognizable. If we notice this happening, we cannot stay silent.
Holding each other accountable isn’t about judgment—it’s about love. If we truly care about someone’s soul, we will not ignore their spiritual drift. We must correct in humility and encourage in truth, always pointing them back to Christ.
Living with Purpose in the Last Days
We don’t know the exact day or hour of Christ’s return, but we do know this: every day brings us closer. Instead of being overwhelmed by fear or frustration, we must focus on what God has called us to do.
- Stay grounded in the Word. Scripture keeps us from being deceived.
- Pray earnestly. Prayer aligns our hearts with God’s will. (How to Pray)
- Encourage fellow believers. Strengthen those who are struggling.
- Share the Gospel. Someone’s eternity may depend on it.
The time is short, but God’s mercy is great. Let’s live each day with urgency—not in panic, but with purpose. The world may be dark, but the light of Christ shines brighter. Let’s be faithful until the end.
Spread the Gospel! – Lives depend on it!
I pray, MARANATHA! (Come quickly, Lord Jesus!)
